DEFINITION:
Under the direction of the Working Foreman (Parks & Facilities), or his/her delegate, maintains the ice surface, maintains and cleans parks, cemetery facilities, and recreation facilities, including the Aquatic Centre, and operates related equipment.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
- Supervise public use of recreation facilities;
- Make ice surface and maintain ice including flooding, operating ice conditioning machines, ice painting, etc.;
- Perform parks and facilities maintenance including janitorial and minor repairs;
- Monitor and maintain the mechanical systems in the Aquatic Centre;
- Monitor and adjust water quality at the Aquatic Centre, as required;
- Set up and take down for various activities held in the recreation facilities;
- Maintain flower beds, trees, shrubs, trails, turf areas, irrigation systems, playgrounds, parks and playing fields, including, but not limited to, weeding, mowing grass, litter pickup, pruning, fertilizing, etc., as required;
- Perform heavy manual duties, including, but not limited to, snow removal, gardening, moving tables, chairs, etc.;
- Identify hazards and perform corrective measures, and/or report hazards to supervisor;
- Perform burial procedures and maintenance at the cemetery;
- Operate equipment including, but not limited to, ice making, janitorial, parks and building maintenance;
- Enforce all rules and regulations regarding public health and safety;
- Ensure buildings and facilities are vacant and secure at end of day;
- Assist in supervision and training of support staff;
- Answer and act on public enquiries and complaints, as required;
- Maintain records and information, as required;
- Shift work is required, including weekends;
- Other related duties, as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Secondary school graduation;
- Minimum of two years' related experience in ice making, janitorial, landscaping and facilities maintenance;
- BCRPA Pool Operator's Level 1, or equivalent;
- Refrigeration Basic Safety Awareness Certificate;
- Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment safely and efficiently;
- Good physical condition and able to perform heavy manual labour;
- Good working knowledge of WorkSafeBC Regulations, as relates to the work involved;
- First Aid training;
- Ability to work independently and to accomplish tasks and assignments;
- Ability to deal effectively with co-workers and the public;
- Good written and oral communication skills;
- Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence.
