DEFINITION:
Under the direction of the Engineering Supervisor or Design Engineer/Technologist, performs work related to engineering and survey, design and inspection, estimating costs of capital projects, short and long-term planning relating to the City's infrastructure, as well as supervisory duties.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
- Assist in preparation of designs, specifications, and cost estimates for City infrastructure construction and reconstruction projects;
- Preparation of tender and contract documents, and the administration of contract work;
- Inspection of capital, subdivision and development project construction;
- Assist in the Preparation of reports as required on all aspects of Public Works' functions within the City;
- Assist in reviewing applications for work on City property, access permits, etc.;
- Assist in supervision and direction of Engineering Technician I;
- Assist in preparation of financial information on L.A.S.'s, funding formulas, grants, etc.;
- Function as an instrument man. Performs field surveys and construction layout;
- Performing drafting with CAD software.
- Assist in preparation and implementation of work and equipment schedules, as required;
- Other duties, as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Complete secondary school;
- Two year technical school diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, including formal survey training;
- Minimum two years' related experience;
- Computer experience; including CAD and other Engineering software;
- Ability to interpret and apply blueprints, drawings, specifications, standards and regulations;
- Ability to maintain clear, complete, and organized field notes, inspection reports, "as-builts", etc.;
- Ability to work independently and to accomplish tasks and assignments;
- Ability to deal effectively with co-workers, contractors, and the public;
- Good written and oral communication skills;
- Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's License.
