DEFINITION:
Under the direction of the Engineering Supervisor performs work related to engineering and survey, design and inspection, estimating costs of capital projects, short and long-term planning relating to the City's infrastructure, subdivision/development review, as well as supervisory duties.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
- Prepare designs, specifications, and cost estimates for City infrastructure construction and reconstruction projects;
- Preparation of tender and contract documents, and assist in the administration of contract work;
- Assist in the review of subdivision/development construction drawings within the City of Terrace;
- Supervision of capital project construction, including co-ordination of hired equipment, materials and City employees;
- Inspection of capital, subdivision and development project construction;
- Assist in the preparation of reports as required on all aspects of Public Works' functions within the City;
- Assist in the preparation of short and long-term plans to ensure integrity of the City's infrastructure;
- Review subdivision applications, site servicing plans for building applications, etc.;
- Collaborate with and direct Engineering Tech I and II's as required;
- Prepare financial information on L.A.S.'s, funding formulas, grants, etc.;
- Function as instrument person;
- Answer and respond to public enquiries or complaints;
- Assist in preparation and implementation of work and equipment schedules;
- Prepare reports to Council;
- Work under the direction of the Engineering Manager as required;
- Other duties, as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Two-year technical school diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, including formal survey training, or a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering;
- Minimum three years' related experience. Municipal experience is an asset;
- Supervisory experience;
- Ability to prepare and interpret and apply blueprints, drawings, specifications, standards and regulations;
- A strong working knowledge of the Master Municipal Construction Documents (MMCD);
- Ability to maintain clear, complete, and organized field notes, inspection reports, review notes, and record drawings;
- Experience with computer modelling, and spreadsheets;
- Experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point, Word);
- Good organizational skills, with the ability to independently prioritize tasks and assignments;
- Ability to deal effectively with co-workers, contractors and the public in a professional manner;
- Good written and oral communication skills;
- Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence;
- Preference will be given to candidates with previous road, civil, and municipal construction experience.
