DEFINITION:

 Under the supervision of the Director of Public Works, performs and supervises the electrical and instrumentation functions of municipal buildings and infrastructure.

 EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: 

  • Supervise the design, inspection, construction and maintenance of City electrical systems;
  • Co-ordinate and oversee contractors hired to work on City buildings and infrastructure;
  • Determine materials and tools required for various projects;
  • Prepare cost estimates for work and monitor budgets for various projects;
  • Ability to interpret and apply blueprints, drawings, specifications, standards and regulations;
  • Assist in the preparation of short and long-term plans to ensure integrity of the City's infrastructure;
  • Prepare reports and correspondence;
  • Provide technical advice and expertise;
  • Prepare tender and contract documents, and supervise the administration of contracts;
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual operating and capital budget;
  • Verify and sign time cards for crews and administer the Collective Agreement;
  • Answer and respond to public enquiries or complaints;
  • Prepare and implement work and equipment schedules;
  • Emergency call outs and shift work may be required;
  • Other related duties, as required.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Secondary school graduation;
  • Applicable Electrical Trade Certification and/or a diploma from a two year technical school in a related field;
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a Class A or B Field Safety Representative designation with Technical Safety BC;
  • Excellent knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and BC amendments;
  • Minimum of five years related experience;
  • Ability to analyse performance and cost data, develop unit costs, and establish cost-effective work practices;
  • Supervisory experience;
  • Computer experience, preferably in a Windows environment,
  • Ability to operate related equipment;
  • Good physical condition and able to perform heavy manual labour;
  • Knowledge of WorkSafe BC Regulations ;
  • Ability to acquire Forklift Operator Certificate, WHMIS, TDG, OFA Level 1 as provided;
  • Ability to work independently and to accomplish tasks and assignments;
  • Ability to deal effectively with co-workers, contractors and the public;
  • Good written and oral communication skills;
  • Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's License.
